Internet Explorer 6 will no longer be supported by Microsoft by 8 April 2014 make that 8 April 2015! Microsoft has granted Windows XP extended support to the UK government. This also includes Office 2003 and Exchange 2003. See Government pays Microsoft to extend Windows XP support.

This means Microsoft will no longer provide any security updates or other fixes for the browser after that date. I care because at work we always have to provide so many bug fixes for the browser. It is such a head ache to make things work in it. After that date businesses will be forced to update or be caught using a browser with unpatched security vulnerabilities which will cause them to fail IT audits and risk compromise of security.

Also of note is that Internet Explorer 7 will also be past its life cycle.
